How to add music to a video

  1. Add your video

Open the editor in desktop Chrome, Edge or Firefox. Click Choose files, or drag your video into the editor.

  2. Add the song or voiceover

Open the Audio tab and click Add audio file. MP3, WAV, M4A and AAC files work. The track starts at the beginning of the video, on the Audio strip of the timeline. Drag the strip to start it later, or enter Starts at (s).

  3. Set the volume and fades, then export

Select the audio strip and drag Volume. If your video has its own sound, a new track starts at 35% so it sits under that sound. Choose Fade in and Fade out lengths; a 1 s fade out is already set. Play it back, then click Export.

Mute the original sound

Select the video clip on the timeline and drag its Volume, under Speed and volume, to 0%. The clip is marked “muted” on the timeline. Each clip has its own volume, so after a split you can mute just one part.

A fade on a video clip fades its picture to black as well as its sound. To fade only the music, set the fade on the audio strip.

How long does the music play?

The track plays until the song ends, even after your last clip. The picture is black for that part. It does not loop. To stop it with the video, drag the right end of its strip back. Use Trim from (s) and Trim to (s) to play only part of a song. For a longer video, click the song in the Audio tab to add it again at the playhead.

You can add several tracks, such as music under a voiceover; overlapping strips stack in rows. Volume goes up to 100%, so a quiet recording cannot be made louder. There is no built-in music library, so bring your own files.
