Add subtitles to your video.
Type a few captions or import a subtitle file. Little Cut draws them into your exported MP4, so they remain visible wherever the video plays.
Add subtitlesFree. No watermark. Works best on desktop Chrome, Edge or Firefox.
How to add captions
Add your video and finish the cut
Open the editor in desktop Chrome, Edge or Firefox and add your video. Trim and arrange the clips first: caption times do not automatically move when you change the video sequence.
Type captions or import a file
Open the Captions tab. Use Add caption to type one, or Import SRT / VTT… to select a subtitle file. Little Cut does not automatically transcribe speech.
Check the words, timing and position
Select a caption to edit its text. Change its timing with Start (s) and End (s), or drag the ends of its strip on the timeline. Adjust the text size and color, and drag it in the preview to place it. Play the video to check that each caption matches the speech.
Export your captioned MP4
Click Export and choose your resolution and frame rate. Captions are part of the video picture in the exported file. There is no watermark, account requirement or video upload.
Use one readable caption style
Style one caption, then choose Use this style for all captions to copy its size, color and position to the others. Keep each caption short enough to read before it disappears. Check the text against both bright and dark parts of your footage.
For a vertical video, leave some space around the words. The app where you share it may cover the edges with buttons or other interface elements.
Can viewers switch the subtitles off?
Captions exported inside the MP4 are burned into the picture and cannot be switched off. If you need a separate subtitle file, choose Download as SRT in the Captions tab. Platforms that support subtitle uploads can use that file separately.
To make a video copy without the burned-in text, save your project first, remove the captions from that copy and export again.
Do I need to upload my video?
No. Your video and subtitle files are processed on your device. Little Cut accepts SRT and VTT caption files up to 2 MB and 3,000 captions. Automatic speech recognition and translation are not included.
